Climate Change:
Technology Neutrality and Use of Clean Energy Investment Funds

The International Clean Energy Alliance is preparing for the upcoming UN Climate Conference, to be held in Copenhagen, in December 7-18 2009. The four core target principles to be addressed at this conference, as stated by the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Yvo de Boer, are:
  • To what levels are industrialized countries willing to reduce greenhouse gasses?
  • To what extent are major developing countries, such as China and India, willing to limit the growth of emissions?
  • How is the help needed by developing countries for reducing emissions, and adapting to regulations for climate change, going to be financed?
  • How will this money be managed?
Since technology lies at the heart of solving the climate change challenge, the ICE Alliance is working to ensure that industry input is reflected in the strategy adopted by participating U.S. negotiators. Already, we have been asked to participate in briefings at the U.S. Department of State, as well as the Bonn Climate Change Talks. Our upcoming roundtable will be focused solely on discussing the UN-led climate negotiations. We have asked Todd Stern, U.S. Special Envoy on Climate Change, to participate as keynote speaker. More details will be forthcoming.
